Los Alamos security costs | Frank Munger's Atomic City Underground ...
I'm catching up on things a bit here. The NNSA recently put out a press release on upgrades, etc., with the training of the security force at Los Alamos National Lab in New Mexico.
I asked about the cost of the some of the cited projects and never did post the response. Here are some of the dollar figures from NNSA spokesman Michael Padilla:
-- Cost of the new Pro Force running track: $776.3K Under budget: 323.7K
-- Cost of the Firearms Simulator Center: $2.576M
-- Cost of the Tactical Training Center: $8.8M Total Project Cost (TPC)
In a statement, nuclear security chief Brad Peterson said, "Los Alamos National Laboratory has one of the best trained protective forces in the nuclear security enterprise, and the proficiency of the force has been demonstrated numerous times over several years. In order to sustain a high level of proficiency, the lab, in conjunction with Los Alamos Site Office and NNSA, has made significant investments in new state-of-the-art training facilities while maintaining the highest security standards."
CommentsDoes the fact that there are no "under budget" numbers for the last two items mean that they were on budget, or over budget??
It's nice that they saved 323k$ (and it's good PR), but the absence of budget info for the other two items is suspicious...
