New York Giants: 2011 NFL Draft
The final mock drafts are up and here’s Mel Kiper’s and Todd McShay’s final takes. McShay also picks all of the Giants picks here .KIPER: Anthony Castonzo , OT, Boston College
UPDATE: “Indications are the Giants may prefer to take Nate Solder of Colorado with this pick, instead of Castonzo. Either case makes sense.
The Giants really can't avoid the fact that despite needs elsewhere, namely linebacker, if they don't add youth and talent to their aging offensive line, they could be in a lot of trouble. While I could see the Giants going for another lineman (see: Chiefs pick), in Castonzo they get more in terms of positional value and the kind of durable, smart player who can give them production at a premium position right away. This gives the Giants a chance to move David Diehl inside and solve a couple problems with one pick.”
MCSHAY: Mark Ingram , RB, Alabama
"Running back is not a primary need for the Giants but Ingram has been gaining momentum in recent days and would upgrade the running game with his instincts and toughness.”
OHM’s take: Indications are that the Giants are going to draft an offensive tackle at 19. USC’s Tyron Smith would be ideal but he is expected to be gone by 19. The Giants then could decide between Castonzo, Solder and Carimi.
It isn’t known which tackle the Giants have rated higher than the other. Castonzo is widely regarded as a higher prospect than Solder and Carimi but Solder offers intriguing talent and size. Carimi is expected to be very solid. I wouldn't be surprised to see them take Solder or Carimi.
If Ingram is there at 19, the Giants will consider the running back. Same goes for Illinois DT Corey Liuget . But we still see them taking a tackle. Here's my first and last mock draft of 2011 .
We’ll find out in a few hours. Here’s your last chance to let us know who you want at 19 below.

The humility of the five inductees, along with the remembering of recently deceased athletic director Mel Morris, made for an emotional night. Jeff Fife, director of the Waynesboro Family YMCA, was the guest speaker for the night.

Mel Kiper 2011 NFL Draft Grades Says New York Giants Went With Value But Missed Needs

Amukamara was widely considered a top 10 talent on most boards, and the Giants simply could't pass him up (surprise, surprise).
They also went with Marvin Austin, a questionable player with a ton of talent.
Kiper concludes with:
And this is a major problem the New York Giants are going to have once again.
Must Read: 1 Veteran From Each Team Who Lost His Job This Weekend
New York, for whatever reason, continues to fill their major needs with patchwork free agents and late round draft choices.
They have another ridiculously difficult closing schedule and if their linebacking unit and offensive line don't start playing at a higher level, they will likely cost Tom Coughlin his job.
Jernigan was an unnecessary pick (especially considering the Giants traded for Sage Rosenfels and Darius Reynaud and gave up a draft pick to do it) and now neither of them will help this team.
The Giants have to hope Clint Sintim and Michael Boley play good football this year and that their offensive line doesn't suffer any injuries.
That sounds a little too risky for me, and the Giants did it to themselves.
